## Overview
ostinata is a music discovery app that lets you create directed graphs mapping your journey between artists, albums, genres, and ideas. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.
## Data We Collect
### Account Information
When you sign in with Apple, we receive:
- Your Apple ID identifier (a unique, anonymous token)
- Your name (only if you choose to share it)
- Your email address (only if you choose to share it)
Apple's Sign in with Apple service may provide a private relay email address rather than your actual email. We respect this choice.
### Content You Create
- Directed graphs (DAGs) including nodes, edges, and reasoning text
- Bounties and guild participation
- Profile settings and preferences
###Social Connections
When you scan another user's QR code, their anonymous share code and display name are stored locally on your device and in your private iCloud database. No central directory of users exists. Users are not discoverable without exchanging codes in person.
### Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect analytics or usage tracking data
- We do not collect device identifiers or advertising IDs
- We do not collect location data
- We do not collect contacts, photos, or other personal data
- We do not use cookies or third-party tracking
## How Your Data Is Stored
All data you create in ostinata is stored using Apple's CloudKit service in your private iCloud database. This means:
- Your data is yours. It is stored in your personal iCloud account, not on our servers.
- We cannot access your data. Private CloudKit databases are encrypted and accessible only to you.
- Your data syncs across your devices via iCloud automatically.
- Deleting the app does not delete your iCloud data. To delete your data, remove it from within the app before uninstalling, or manage it through iCloud settings.
## Third-Party Services
### MusicBrainz
We query the MusicBrainz API (musicbrainz.org) to search for artists and albums. These are read-only lookups — no personal data is sent to MusicBrainz. Only your search queries (artist/album names) are transmitted.
### Cover Art Archive
We retrieve album artwork from the Cover Art Archive (coverartarchive.org). No personal data is sent.
### Apple CloudKit
Your content is stored in Apple's CloudKit infrastructure under your iCloud account. Apple's privacy policy applies to this storage: https://www.apple.com/privacy/
## Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or transfer your personal information to third parties. We do not serve advertisements.
When you publish a DAG as "public," its content (nodes, edges, reasoning) becomes visible to other ostinata users. Your display name is associated with public content. You can change any DAG to "private" at any time.
## Data Retention
Your data persists in your iCloud account for as long as you maintain it. You can delete individual journeys, bounties, or your entire account from within the app at any time.
## Children's Privacy
ostinata does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app uses Sign in with Apple, which requires an Apple ID subject to Apple's age requirements.
## Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
